FAQ
FAQ
Are the products 100% indigenous?
Yes, all of our moccasins and other handcrafted products are created, developed and manufactured in the indigenous community of Wendake, Quebec, Canada.
Furthermore, the owner is a proud member of the Huron-Wendat nation and is a registered person (statued) under the Indian Act of Canada as well a large number of employees within the business.
Where do you source your leathers?
In order to offer the finest quality to our customers, we only use leathers produced in North America. We use 3 types of materials.
Cow hides
They are entirely produced and transformed in Canada. They come from responsible farming and are supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec.
Moose hides
Our moose hides come from Canada (Quebec and the Maritime provinces.) In fact, our supplier, a Quebec-based tannery, has agreements with certified game butchers from whom it collects the hides during the big game hunting season. This practice avoids waste since moose hides are in most cases thrown away by hunters. According to indigenous circular thought, we respect and reuse every single part of the moose's harvest when they surrender their lives.
Suedes
Because of the quality and quantity required for our production, we use US suede. Bastien Industries is proud to partner with a family owned tannery that has been in business since 1936 and employs 85 people with a good living wage.
Vegan leathers
We do not currently have any products available in vegan leathers. We are working with some suppliers to find the right product to keep the same quality of product, while avoiding the use of "vegan leathers" from petrochemistry.
Is it truly handmade?
Yes, all our moccasins are hand-laced and hand-beaded by local artisan of Wendake and the surrounding area. We have a significant number of in-house craftsmen who lace and bead each pair produced in our workshop every day.
What size should I order?
Moccasins are made of genuine leather and tend to stretch. They will stretch approximately half to one size over time to fit the shape of your foot. At first, your toes should be slightly supported on the inner end, but not curled.
For women's moccasins
It is strongly recommended to order one size smaller than the shoes you are wearing.
For men's moccasins
Order the same size as your shoes, but if you wear the half size, please use the size below.
What's the warranty on your products?
Our products are covered by a warranty against defects in craftsmanship and materials for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase with the original invoice. This warranty does not cover excessive wear and/or products that have been used outside of their intended use.
